Delhi Metro

Delhi Metro

The Central Secretariat – Qutab Minar underground corridor of the Delhi Metro will be inaugurated by Union Urban Development Minister S Jaipal Reddy in the presence of Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on September 3.

Mr Reddy will flag off the ceremonial train on the occasion from the Udyog Bhavan station at 1 pm on that day. The section will be opened for the public from 3 pm of the same day, when commercial operations will commence.

A press release from the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) said Mr R K Kardam, the Commissioner for Metro Rail Safety (CMRS), had completed his inspection of the corridor.

The 12.53 kilometre long corridor has nine underground stations – Udyog Bhawan, Race Course, Jor Bagh, INA, AIIMS, Green Park, Hauz Khas, Malviya Nagar and Saket – and one elevated station, Qutab Minar.Delhi Metro

With the opening of this line, the total length of the Jahangirpuri – Gurgaon HUDA City Centre corridor will become 45 kilometres which will be covered in about one hour and 20 minutes. It will cost Rs. 29 for a passenger to travel from HUDA City Centre to Jahangirpuri.

The total operational Metro network will thus become 138 kilometres with 117 stations from that date, the release added.

The Yellow Line of the Delhi Metro system in Delhi consists of 33 metro stations from Jahangirpuri to HUDA City Centre in Gurgaon, although the 12.53-km, 9-station section from Central Secretariat to Qutub Minar  will open on 3rd September 2010. This line is mostly underground and has been laid under one of the most congested parts of Delhi. The yellow line has interchanges with the red, blue, airport express, and violet lines of the Delhi Metro, as well as with the Old Delhi and New Delhi railway stations of Indian Railways, all within a short span of 7 stations.

Southern extension

The extension is 27.5 km south from Central Secretariat, crossing into Gurgaon in the adjacent state of Haryana.

Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

A lot of people might have this same problem where they use UMAX/Gadmei USB UTV 330 USB Tv tuner and they just can’t get it to work on MS Windows 7.

Well after a struggle i got to get it working on both Windows 7 x86 and x64 PC.

Its a Simple Procedure:

  • First Download This Driver (240 KB) For both X86 and X64 windows 7
  • Go To Device Manager (Start>Control Panel [Search for Device Manager])
  • Right Click on USB TV BOX & select ” Update Driver Software” Device Manager View
  • Update Driver Software Wizard opens up, now you need to select the option “Browse My Computer for Driver SoftwareDriver installation Wizard Step 1
  • Now select option “Let me pick from list of device drivers on my computer” and click Next Driver installation Wizard Step 2
  • Now select “Show All Devices” and click Next Driver installation Wizard Step 3
  • Click on “Have Disk” and select the appropriate inf file for your windows usb device and than click Next. Driver installation Wizard Step 4
  • After selecting the device driver it shows you that it found a Compatible Hardware. In circle it shows “This Driver is Digitally Signed“. Select “USB TV DEVICE” and click Next. Driver installation Wizard Step 5
  • After you click next, it starts to install the drivers for your Windows 7 Version; like this. Driver installation Wizard Step 6
  • After it completes installing the driver, it gives you the confirmation of successful driver installation. Driver installation Wizard Step 7
  • Now you can see that the Device manager it shows that the device has been installed. Device Manager (Post TV tuner Install)
  • If you check the device properties after that it shows “Device Manager (Post TV tuner Install)” Device Properties Post Install
  • And if we check the driver file details, bingo; they all are working like a charm. Driver Details Gadmie/UMAX UTV 330 Windows 7 x64 x86

But it not all over yet! we still need TV Home Media to watch the tv on. since the Application originally designed for Windows 7  breaks a lot of pixels, so it had to be sorted also.  To solve this problem i installed the application originally intended for Windows 200/Xp/Vista.

TV HOME MEDIA can be Downloaded from Here (8.04MB)

It seems to work both on Windows 7 x86 and x64.  And there you have it folks UMAX/Gadmei UTV 330 USB TV BOX Working on Windows 7.

First ‘synthetic cell’ developed

Tags: , , , , , , , , ,

A team of US researchers, led by biologist Dr Craig Venter, has developed the first synthetic living cell in a laboratory.

The “landmark” study will play a crucial role in the field of genomics. It will help in the creation of artificial organisms for tasks including making vaccines or cleaning up pollution.

However, experts have warned that synthetic life could also pose potential dangers, as it could lead to terrifying biological weapons. This was demonstrated by Mary Shelley in her famous novel.

By breathing life into a bacterium using genes assembled in the laboratory, maverick genetics entrepreneur Dr Venter realised a 15-year dream.

The researchers “re-booted” a simple microbe by transplanting into it a set of genetic code sequences. The findings were published in the journal Science.

They copied the genome from the blueprint contained in Mycoplasma mycoides, a simple bacterium that infects cattle and goats.

After first constructing short strands of DNA, the scientists used yeast cells as natural factory assembly lines.

The sequence was built in a step-by-step process. DNA repair systems in the yeast attached the pieces together, gradually lengthening the strands to finish up with a chromosome more than a million “letters” of genetic code long.

The final test came when the completed chromosome was transplanted into another bacterium, Mycoplasma capricolum, replacing its native DNA.

After a failed first attempt, the scientists brought the cells to life. Driven by the new genome, the bacteria took on the appearance and behaviour of M. mycoides, generating different proteins and multiplying.

With a breakthrough that would make Dr Frankenstein proud, scientists in the US have pushed the boundaries of modern science by successfully implanting a synthetic genome into an emptied bacterium cell.

For the first time ever, scientists have created artificial life with an organism that’s controlled entirely by man-made DNA.

The US based scientists, working at the J. Craig Venter Institute, used the tools of synthetic biology to install the artificial genome inside a host cell from which they had completely removed the DNA. This artificial genome invigorated the host cell, which then began to grow and reproduce.

There were a few problems. Several of the synthesized genes didn’t work properly, but there is no doubt that artificial life was successfully created.

‘This is the first synthetic cell that’s been made,’ said Venter. ‘We call it synthetic because the cell is totally derived from a synthetic chromosome, made with four bottles of chemicals on a chemical synthesizer, starting with information in a computer.’

How will this affect the human race?

J. Crag Venter has partnered with both a pharmaceutical company and a major oil and gas company in order to raise funding for further research into what can be done with this new-found breakthrough.

It is thought that Venter’s creation of artificial life could allow scientists to create more useful bacteria that can reduce the cost and speed up the production of biofuels, vaccines and drugs.

Discovery Channel will be exploring this artificial life breakthrough in a dedicated show on Monday 7th June at 8pm (UK).

What do you think? Is the J. Craig venter Institute playing God by creating artificial life? Has science gone a step too far or is this the gateway to a future of untold possibility?
